Big Blue Spends $563,756.00 to go paperless
Conscious of contributing to landfill; in 2007 the decision was made for Big Blue to swap its ordering system to one
that is paperless. This involved the purchase of very expensive order management system capable of communicating with
wireless PDAs which were purchased for all of our drivers.
Also more time-efficient, since swapping to this paperless
ordering system, we have saved on printing thousands of docket books along with over 2.17 million order sheets.
Big Blue sends the majority of its invoices, account reminders and newsletters via email rather than by post saving on
tonnes of paper and envelopes. Prior to 2008, our invoices and statements numbered over 7500 per month and some of them
over 10-15 pages long.
In March 2008, every Auckland employee of Big Blue dedicated an entire weekend to helping reduce its carbon footprint.
They loaded each customer into a high-tech mapping programme that indicated the most energy efficient way to deliver
water to clients using the least amount of fuel and producing the least amount of tail pipe fumes.
Big Blue has partnered with automotive mechanics, Dr Diesel, to ensure it produces the lowest amount possible of carbon
monoxide from its trucks.
For long distance travel, a fleet of meticulously maintained Toyota Hiace vans have been purchased to reduce petrol use.
